North Vancouver, BC
Location: Across Burrard Inlet from Vancouver, North Vancouver is built on the sides of the North Shore mountains that provide Vancouver's superlative scenic backdrop.
Travel Time: Fifteen minutes by car across the Lions Gate Bridge or the Second Narrows bridge. A ferry takes foot passengers across Burrard Inlet between North Vancouver and downtown Vancouver.
Climate: Same as Vancouver for temperature but significantly more rain as clouds forced up the mountainsides drop their moisture.
Economy: A great many North Vancouver residents make their living in Vancouver. However, there is considerable port activity on the waterfront and a number of industries closely associated with the port. Much of Canada's grain is shipped from these facilities around the world.
To do: North Vancouver is just a short drive from the urban amenities of Vancouver and is very close to the wilderness areas of the North Shore mountains. A number of parks here are developed with wilderness hiking trails. There is a cable car lift to the top of Grouse Mountain for skiing in winter and a breathtaking view of the city any time of the year.
